Articulated Dust Collector Arm
Page 1: Intro
For the past few years I've been fighting with my dust collection system. Trying to get an inlet near enough to the working area of the piece I'm turning was usually at odds with my desire to keep everything out of my way.
I needed it to have little or no footprint, full flexibility and adjustability (so as to position the inlet right AT the area of the work that would be the most effective and, because I'm cheap) something that would cost very little to produce. The project Parts List uses common hardware that should all be available for one-stop shopping at one of the big box home improvement centers.
When in doubt look at the photos I've provided. I believe they'll illustrate the construction far better than my directions will for many of you. Many items may be substituted to suit your individual needs but this is the basic unit.
*** This unit is attached to my WOODEN lathe stand. Alterations will be necessary to mount to cast iron/metal/? stands but are quite easy to fabricate as I'll discuss at the end.
This is the end result. An articulated, height adjustable dust collecton mounting gizmo-thingy.
