Articulated Dust Collector Arm
Page 5: Knob
Again, this step is only if you're going to make the height adjustment knob and not purchase one. Skip ahead to Inlet if that's the case.
(fig.9)
Find yourself a small scrap of hardwood, (I used a bit of walnut that measured roughly 3"x 1.5" x 3/4" thick), bore a recess in the center just big enough to fit the head of one of our 1/4-20 Hex bolt heads into. I cut my walnut into the shape you see but it's design is completely up to you.
(fig. 10)
I also bored a small hole into the center recess from one end of the knob. The size of the hole is relative to the next step in the process so I'm not listing a particular size here. To keep the knob secured to the bolt I found a small bit of drill rod, approx 1/8" x 2" long. (You can use a finish nail, a small broken drill bit or whatever you have at hand.) I then bored a hole of the same diameter as that drill rod sideways through the head of the bolt.
(fig.11)
Insert the bolt into the knob, line the hole in the head up with the hole bored into the center of the knob from it's end and drive the drill rod or finish nail or whatever through the knob and the bolt head. (See again fig. 10)
